Speaker - Shauna Janz
To accommodate the speaker’s schedule, President Heather flipped around the usual agenda and the speaker was announced.
Shauna Janz is a public speaker who specializes in the area of grief, loss and wellness. She is the part- time Executive Director and a facilitator at Learning through Loss a local non-profit agency supporting youth. More information about the speaker and her topic can be found at the website: www.learning throughloss.org.
Rod thanked the speaker and especially thanked her for speaking about Sandra Elder and the experience of saying good bye.
Shauna thanked Jack because his choir will be supporting Learning Through Loss at their concert this year.

New Member:
President Heather then continued with the meeting, notwithstanding the absence of her notes ( which apparently were on her desk).  Creole Carmichael was inducted as a new member. She is moving from the Victoria Club. Her category is jewelry design.  She is a goldsmith and has been a Rotarian for a number of years. Welcome Creole!
Creole thanked  Heather for her introduction and said she was looking forward to helping out and to getting to know us all.

Announcements:
  • Ron Cooley is looking for course marshalls for the Merrython – Sign up!
  • President Heather – we have rack cards for the Merrython – please take some and put them around where they  can attract lots of possible participants!
  • Joan Peggs – there will be a brief flag meeting after the main meeting
  • Lynne – please note that the numbers in the badge box have changed again. Please check for your new number!
  • Neil Rawnsley – next week is the tax auction – the lots are made up of funds the club has collected through fines that will be going to  the Rotary Foundation. Funds donated go towards qualifying for a Paul Harris pin. If you need to know what your status for Paul Harris is, check with Neil.
  • Jana – 3rd Annual Superbowls for Hope will be at Fired up tomorrow night a 6 pm.  For $10 you can decorate a bowl for this cause.
  • The Frank Sinatra Event will be taking place at the new Oak Bay Secondary Theatre on Dec. 12, 2015.  If you love jazz, this is going to be a fun event and a great chance to raise funds.  Joe Coughlan, a legendary jazz great, will be playing.  Joe is donating his services. Lorna explained Joe is in a wheel chair and when he was young, Rotary Clubs in Ontario helped with the equipment he needed and now he wants to give back.  He says it is a case of paying it forward.   The money from the event will go to the Foundation to support a scholarship at Oak Bay High.  If we do this event well, we may be able to do further events in the coming years.  The tickets may be sold through the Oak Bay Rec Centre and we have the potential to raise $15,000.  Tickets will be about $45 each.   We may also have some corporate sponsors come on board.  We will not do the event if we are unable to sell the tickets this way. We have a good chance to do well for a minimal amount of effort by a small committee..  Watch for more info as the date gets closer.
  • Club in the Pub on Thursday, at the Penny Farthing
  • Naida has a friend in Ontario who is looking to house sit in Victoria. If you are interested, contact Naida for the details.
  • Perry reported that Ann has survived the cyclone in Mexico and that her home is secure, though many of her neighbours suffered damages from the storm
