Announcements:
  • Heather thanked all the Oak Bay club members who helped at the Merrython last Sunday.  The weather window was beautiful and as a result, we had quite a few last minute registrants.  Thanks to those that came out and helped boost the profile of our club in the community. The event proceeds helps fund our community, youth and international projects.
  • Heather also reported on her attendance at last Thursday’s “World’s greatest Meal to end Polio,” at the Victoria Rotary club, where about $6,000 was raised for the fight to eradicate Polio.  With donation matching from both the Government of Canada as well as the Gates Foundation, Heather said every $1 turns into $5.
  • Ruby Tang and her 4 fellow Interactors took turns telling about two of the fund raisers they currently are working on—Selling scarves from Guatemala for $20 each ($10 to the person who made the scarf and $10 to the Guatemalan fundraiser).   They were also selling Christmas tree ornaments with the profits going in support of the APU girls' school in Malawi, that we also support.
  • Rod Sim talked about the upcoming, Dec 12 “Frank Sinatra” evening at the Oak Bay High School Theatre, starring Joe Coughlin at 2121 Cadboro Bay Rd.The proceeds will be used to fund scholarships for First Nations students.Tickets are available at Scotiabank on Oak Bay Avenue and Oak Bay Recreation Centre for $45 or contact Rod for tickets rod@rodsim.com.

The Mustard Seed helps support the poor and also the working poor and is focused on helping people get out of the multi-generational cycle of poverty.  The Mustard Seed has many other initiatives including helping people to get better jobs and learn how to cook, and are partnered with Rotarians for Food Rescue to divert more food from the recycling stream to those that need it.   To help the Mustard Seed with fundraising for all the good work they do, please consider attending The Huron Carole featuring Tom Jackson on Friday December 18, 2015.  Tickets are $150 each and it will be a gala affair at a beautiful private estate, with a limited  number of tickets available.  Entertainment, food and wine included in the ticket price. 1       This Saturday December 12, a concert featuring  Pablo and other musicians/singers  at St Mary’s church on Elgin
2       Feb 27, 2016 another concert by Pablo to benefit Rotary, more to come
3       June 2016, “Bark at the Park” fundraiser, much more to come
Many Happy and Sad dollars were given.
The meeting adjourned a bit early leaving people time for a bit mixing at the end.
